Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Mazda CX-7 - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2008 Mazda CX7 we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame class three trailer hitch receiver, part number 75512. Here's what this hitch is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, overall it's pretty well hidden. Really what you're just going to see is the receiver tube here, the safety chain connection points, and then over here is the bracket that's welded onto the crosstube that's going to allow you to mount up wiring. It's really nice, because if you're planning on towing a trailer on a regular basis that's going to give you a nice easy access point to be able to get to your wiring and not have to pull it out of your trunk or just have it connected down here. That gives you a good sturdy location so that you can always get to it easily. Now this hitch has a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening and this nice welded-on reinforcement collar around that receiver tube opening. more

The rest of it is tucked up nicely behind the fascia here. That's going to do a really nice job to help maintain a clean look on the vehicle. Also, if you've got those 1-1/4" accessories already, this will serve really well for that, too. The receiver tube opening has this reinforcement collar that's welded on just to help to give that little bit of extra security and stability. Here's what our hitch is going to look like installed, it's going to give us a nice clean look, the main cross tube's completely hidden in behind the bumper there, really just going to see your receiver tube opening, safety chain connection points, eve hidden right here this is going to be a bracket for mounting wiring, it's got 3 pre-drilled holes in it, we're going to have our wiring right there to the side, it's really a nice hitch setup, pretty convenient. They'll have the rounded reinforcement collar around the end here, it's going to give us a pretty soft look, and then you've got your safety chain connection points down here, these are going to be a rolled steel kind of a style connection point, shouldn't have any issues getting whatever kind of hook that you've got connected there. On the side of our hitch we're going to have 2 holes, a larger 5 inch diameter pinhole closer to the front of the vehicle, that's what we secure everything with. The smaller hole right behind it, that's for use with the J-Pin stabilization system. We also have several anti-rattle devices, hitch pins, hitch pins locks, and I think all of those would work pretty well on it without any kind of issue. The hitch offers a 350 pound tongue weight rating, that's going to be the maximum downward force we can put here at our receiver tube opening. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Mazda CX-7 - Draw-Tite

Today, in our 2007 Mazda CX-7, well be installing the Draw -Tite Max Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver in a Class III with a two inch opening on the Receiver, part number 75512. Heres what our Hitch looks like installed on a vehicle. Now well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your Hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the Hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately six inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground, is approximately 11 and a half inches. Now, lets go ahead and install our Hitch. Now, to begin with, were going to go ahead and add a safety strap to give the exhaust a little extra support once we remove the rubber hangers. On this particular vehicle, it is not absolutely necessary that you use a safety strap, because there will be two other hangers that help hold the rear muffler in place, but with the weight of the muffler, its a good idea to do it anyways. Now, well only be removing the two rear exhaust hangers. To get these off, we use a little spray lubricant, and a large pry bar, or if you have an exhaust removal tool, that works great too. These can be a little difficult to get off, as they are a little tight on the hanger, and once we have the two rear rubber exhaust hangers removed, with the exhaust tilted down out of the way, well need to open up one of the two holes that well be using for mounting the hardware on each side. more
